Joanne Giulietti

Joanne Giulietti has been a storyteller since childhood, daydreaming in class, until her fifth-grade teacher sparked her writing passion at age ten.

Her first article appeared in The Annals of Saint Anne de Beaupre in 1992, followed by pieces in Catholic and Christian magazines and humor columns in the Glen Oaks Ledger until its 2006 closure.

Her debut novel, Emerging From Etna's Shadow, inspired by her grandmother's life, blends the struggles, faith, and joy of her family's immigrant roots. She hopes it inspires readers to explore their heritage.

Emerging From Etna's Shadow: A Sicilian Family's Story of Faith and Hope

What secrets drive the Primavita family to flee Sicily for America? Their heart wrenching saga unfolds from the volcanic shadows of Mount Etna in the village of Pedara, where tradition and tragedy intertwine, to the bustling streets of Brooklyn. Facing loss, love, and the allure of a new world, they endure a perilous Atlantic voyage and confront the harsh realities of urban life: tenements, toil, and unyielding challenges, while their faith offers a beacon of hope amid hardship.

Across generations, the Primavitas grapple with Etna's lingering presence and their Sicilian heritage, forging unbreakable bonds tested by fate. Emerging From Etna's Shadow is more than a family story; it's a vivid reflection of immigration's upheavals, a celebration of enduring love and the resilient human spirit. This multi-generational epic is ideal for fans of historical fiction exploring themes of family, faith, and the immigrant experience that defined an era.
