Margreit Maitland

When my grandfather gave me the journal about my ancestor Robert's incredible trek across the world, it captured my imagination, and bringing his story of joy, heartbreak, and courage to life became a passion for me.

My journey to becoming a published author has been filled with discovery. The most rewarding moments are when I hear from readers how much they are engaged in Robert's story.

I wrote the series for readers age 9+ because I loved the idea of getting young readers excited about a true survival tale—especially one set during such an amazing time—the Age of Sail.

Published Works:

Runaway At Sea

Fleeing from danger, Robert and his best friend Michael sneak aboard a ship and hide in a lifeboat, convinced they will start a new life at the next port. When they are found, the real trouble begins.

Adventurer at Sea

The Runaway at Sea book series continues with Robert and Michael aboard a whaling vessel with their family of shipmates. A perilous hunt causes the death of a beloved friend and it is the catalyst for the boys renewing their vow to get to America.

Bricks, Brothers and A Breakaway

In this prequel to the Runaway at Sea book series, twelve-year-old Robert has a large family and an even larger problem; two brothers he loves and one he hates. All of them are obligated to keep the family's brick-making business going. When one favorite brother leaves, it sets Robert on a path he never expected. Now left with less protection from his tyrant brother Thomas, Robert must choose between the family he loves and what he thinks is a peaceful future.
