Born in 1956 in Port Jefferson, Long Island, NY. Jay Spillmann grew up by the water in Setauket, NY. In elementary school, he got a job working the summer months on a lobster boat, catching lobsters and serving people on a floating restaurant that lasted until he was in tenth grade.

Jay worked jobs installing carpet, and worked at Stony Brook University as a building painter, eventually starting his own house-painting business which he worked all over Long Island for 41 years. He also joined the local fire department and was a volunteer for 35 years and rose to the Chief of the Department.

Now retired, Jay lives in Arizona. He misses the water, but not the weather!

This book is about the life and times of a fishing captain from Long Island, New York, it is set between the 1960s to 1970's. Captain Pete Brietung fished the East coast of the United States and opened a floating fish restaurant on Long Island North Shore in Port Jefferson harbor. This book includes my recollections of working with and for Pete.
