Author Jerry Byrne is a Marine Vietnam combat veteran. After serving his country, he worked for 37 years in the elevator industry, Local One IUEC, retiring in 2005.

Married 54 years, with two sons and two grandchildren, he calls both Florida and Long Island, New York his home. He is a guest speaker at local high schools across Long Island and his interests include walking on the beach, eating out, boxing and Tai Chi.

His current book, Twin Marines in Hell: From Grade School to Vietnam tells the story of his experiences in the Marine Corps Boot Camp in 1963, and combat in Vietnam from 1966-1967, with his twin brother, John.

There are thousands of books written about Vietnam, but not necessarily about twins in Marine Corps boot camp and Vietnam at the same time. This book is history, but it is not a history book. It is a story as I remembered Vietnam and the hardship of being a grunt in the Marine Corps. The story highlights growing up as twins in New York City and joining the Marines together. My brother John's life was taken away at an early age of 58 years old. He died from Agent orange—a toxic chemical produced by greedy corporations and sprayed in Vietnam. Many Americans were exposed to this chemical while fighting in Vietnam and are still dying from cancer from it today.
